Compass has a gain
adjustment function. With the help of the switch on rear , users
can choose the headphone amp gain at 6DB or 13DB, to suit
headphones with different sensitivity and impedance, like for HD650,
103DB/300 ohm, 13DB gain is fine, while on the other hand, D2000,
106DB/25 ohms, a gain of 13DB will be a bit louder, and a gain of 6DB will be far better. For users that don't necessarily want to
change the gain, Compass default gain is 13DB. In which case, if
users listen through HD650, the volume maybe turned at 10' clock,
and when users listen through D2000, the volume maybe turned at 9'
clock. I have used four different headphones while developing
Compass, Sennheiser HD650, Akg K701, Denon D2000 and Grado SR80.
Please See the picture below.
Moreover,
Compass had a "Sound DIY" for users. With the
help of two groups jumpers ( don't need any other tool, and will only take
around 30 seconds ), users can choose the headphone amp sound
signature from "Bright" , "Neutral", "Soft-1", and
"Soft-2",The effect will
be noticeable and users can make their choice accordingly. We
advice users when want to change the setup, shut down the power at
first.

Default setup sound
color Bright (without all jumps).
We build
a high performance headphone amp inside. a separate transistors buffer
always for the
headphone amp input, the buffer can keep a low impedance feed to
headphone amp, even when users use different signal sources.
Furthermore, it will also improve the DAC feed to headphone amp .
Compass will come in 100-120V version and 220-240
versions, depending on the geographical location and customer’s
choice. The reason we don't make selectable voltage, 1, we are
afraid if customers choose the wrong voltage, it will burn the
gear. 2, in low quality gear, you can't hear the sound effect
with or without selectable switch, but in hi-quality gear, you
can hear the difference not only with power selectable switch,
but even with power cable.
Compass is mostly soldered or hardwired, because we are convinced
that by using sockets, the Sound Quality will be low, but our
intention is to produce a Hi-Grade gear, even though Compass is
priced low.
